Anthony Tidd is a Creative Musician, Composer, Producer, Educator and Curator, who over a 30 year career has notably performed with, and produced songs on multi-platinum albums for, many artists including; The Roots, Steve Coleman, Meshell Ndegeocello, David Byrne, Macy Gray, Wayne Krantz, Zap Mama, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, Orrin Evans, Fergie, Jill Scott, Ursula Rucker, and many more. His debut album, Quite Sane – The Child of Troubled Times (2002), which fuses elements of hip-hop and funk with “jazz”, quickly became a modern staple within creative music circles.

As part of his Guggenheim Fellowship and South Arts Creative Residency, composer, producer, and bassist Anthony Tidd brings his Visionary Ensemble Quite Sane plus Special Guests to Harlem for a special three-week residency at Atelier Harlem (Pop-Up).

Tidd has written for everything from duos to major orchestras

With his recent works including Jay Z’s documentary-series, Rest in Power – The Trayvon Martin Story (Paramount, 2018), Sa and Alatangana – for orchestra (Detroit Symphony, 2019), Seven Souls, for string quartet and performance poet (2021), Seven Years, by Black Thought (Audible, 2021), and Black No More, a Broadway Musical written with Tariq Trotter, as part of a creative team including John Ridley, Daryl Waters and Bill T. Jones (The New Group, 2022).

In 2020, in response to the pandemic and lock down Anthony and Dimitri Louis co-founded ACT4Music

An online festival which presented 250 diverse international artists to an online audience which exceeded 30,000 ticket sales over 8 weeks.

In 2022, as part of Ari-Benjamin Meyers’ Rehearsing Philadelphia project

In partnership with Drexel University and The Curtis School of Music, Anthony worked to create Public Orchestra Philadelphia, an 50 person multi-genre orchestra, which not only included standard fare orchestral instruments, but also the more unusual; a DJ/sound-designer, nose flautist, bandoneón player, sitarist, and a wide range of percussionists from around the globe.

 Anthony is currently putting the finishing touches on the sequel to his debut album, Quite Sane – To Kill a Child of Troubled Times

A three sided vinyl release featuring many of the original personnel plus some great new additions, due to come out in July of 2024.
